Layer onions and these 2 ingredients with steak for a baked dish you’ll never get tired of

This 4-Ingredient Oven-Baked Beef Steak and Onion Foil Bake is a simple, high-flavor dinner with minimal cleanup. Cooking the steak “en papillote” (in foil) lets it steam in its own juices alongside the onions, which turn into a naturally savory, jam-like base. This method keeps the steak tender and juicy, making it hard to overcook.

4-Ingredient Beef Steak and Onion Foil Bake

Ingredients:

  • 1–2 lbs beef steak (sirloin, round, or chuck)
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1–1 1/2 teaspoons salt and black pepper

Directions:

Step 1: Prep Oven and Foil
Preheat oven to 400°F. Prepare four large sheets of heavy-duty foil, leaving enough space to wrap the steak and onions loosely while sealing in the moisture.

Step 2: Season the Onions
Toss the sliced onions with olive oil (or butter) and half of the salt and pepper in a medium bowl.

Step 3: Prep the Steak
Divide steak into 4 portions. Pat dry and season both sides with the remaining salt and pepper.

Step 4: Build the Packets
Place a bed of seasoned onions on each foil sheet. Lay a steak portion on top, and drizzle any leftover oil over the meat.

Step 5: Seal and Bake
Fold the foil over the steak, then roll the ends to create sealed pouches. Place on a baking sheet and bake 20–25 minutes for medium doneness.

Step 6: Rest and Serve
Let the packets sit unopened for 5 minutes. Open carefully to avoid hot steam, and spoon the softened onions and juices over the steak before serving.
