Hearty Amish Ground Beef Gravy Noodles (Slow Cooker)

A four-ingredient wonder that feels like it’s been passed down for generations. This dish is pure comfort: ground beef simmered low and slow with brown gravy mix and broth until tender, then finished with egg noodles that soak up every drop of savory richness. It’s humble, hearty, and exactly the kind of meal that gets requested again and again on busy weeknights.

Serving Ideas

  • Pair with a crisp green side: steamed beans, tossed salad, or roasted broccoli.
  • Add buttered bread or dinner rolls to catch the extra gravy.
  • Sprinkle fresh parsley or green onions for brightness.
  • For crunch and contrast, serve alongside cucumber salad or coleslaw.

Lean ground beef2 poundsRaw, uncooked
Brown gravy mix2 packets (0.87 oz each, ~3 tbsp)Dry
Low-sodium beef broth3 cupsLiquid base
Wide egg noodles12 ozUncooked

Directions

  1. Layer the Beef
Place raw ground beef in the bottom of a 5–6 quart slow cooker. Break into large chunks (no browning needed).
  2. Season with Gravy Mix
Sprinkle gravy mix evenly over the beef so the powder clings to the meat.
  3. Add Broth
Pour beef broth over the top. Do not stir—this helps the beef steam gently.
  4. Slow Cook
    Cover and cook:
    • LOW for 4–5 hours, or
    • HIGH for 2–3 hours, until beef is fully cooked and easy to crumble.
  5. Break & Stir
Use a spoon to crumble beef directly in the slow cooker. Stir until beef, broth, and gravy mix combine into a smooth gravy. Skim excess fat if desired.
  6. Cook the Noodles
Add uncooked egg noodles, pressing them into the hot gravy. Stir to distribute. Cover and cook on HIGH for 20–30 minutes, stirring once or twice, until noodles are tender and gravy clings to the beef.
  7. Finish & Serve
Taste, adjust seasoning with salt and pepper, and serve hot straight from the slow cooker.
