Slow-Cooked Three-Envelope Roast

Three-Envelope Roast
This Three-Envelope Roast is a slow-cooker classic, often called the savory cousin of Mississippi Pot Roast. The combination of Italian, Ranch, and Brown Gravy mixes creates a flavor that’s rich, slightly tangy, and deeply satisfying. By whisking the mixes with water first, you get a smooth, velvety gravy that soaks into the meat as it cooks, avoiding any clumps or “seasoning hotspots.”
Ingredients
- 3 lb chuck roast
- 1 cup water
- 1 package dry Italian seasoning mix
- 1 package dry Ranch seasoning mix
- 1 package dry brown gravy mix
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
Step 1: Season the Roast
Generously season the chuck roast on all sides with salt and black pepper.
Step 2: Place in Crockpot
Put the seasoned roast at the bottom of your slow cooker.
Step 3: Make the Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together the Italian seasoning, Ranch mix, and brown gravy mix with 1 cup of water until smooth and fully dissolved.
Step 4: Pour Over Roast
Pour the mixture over the roast, making sure it’s evenly coated.
Step 5: Slow Cook
Cook on High for 4 hours. For extra tender, “fall-apart” meat, cook on Low for 8 hours.
Step 6: Baste and Serve
Occasionally open the lid and spoon some juices over the roast. When the beef shreds easily with a fork, it’s ready to enjoy.
