A friend from our church group shared this clever 4-ingredient foil-pack recipe, and it’s become one of my favorites. Wrapping everything tightly in foil locks in all the flavor, allowing the rich juices to blend right into the dough as it cooks.

Slow Cooker Foil Packet Sausage and Pierogies
This Slow Cooker Foil Packet Sausage and Pierogies recipe is an easy, hands-off meal that turns a few simple ingredients into a comforting dinner. Frozen pierogies, smoked sausage, and sliced onions are wrapped in foil with melted butter, creating a sealed cooking environment that locks in flavor and moisture. As everything slowly cooks together, the pierogies become soft and tender while absorbing the savory richness of the sausage and buttery onion mixture.
Ingredients
| Ingredient | Amount |
|---|---|
| Frozen potato-and-cheese pierogies | 1 package (16–20 oz) |
| Smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced | 1 ring (12–14 oz) |
| Large yellow onion, thinly sliced | 1 |
| Unsalted butter, melted | ½ cup |
Directions
Step 1: Combine the Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, add the frozen pierogies, sliced sausage, and onions. Drizzle the melted butter over everything and gently toss until evenly coated.
Step 2: Prepare the Foil Packets
Tear off two large sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Divide the mixture evenly between the sheets and seal each packet tightly.
Kitchen Tip: Make sure the packets are well sealed to keep the moisture and flavors inside while cooking.
Step 3: Slow Cook
Place the foil packets into the slow cooker. Cover with the lid and cook on:
- LOW for 4–5 hours, or
- HIGH for 2–2½ hours
The dish is ready when the pierogies are heated through and tender, and the onions have softened.
Step 4: Open and Stir
Carefully remove the packets and open them away from your face, as hot steam will escape. Gently stir the contents so the buttery cooking juices coat the pierogies and sausage evenly.
Serving Suggestion
Serve straight from the packet or transfer to a serving dish. For extra flavor, garnish with chopped parsley, a dollop of sour cream, or a sprinkle of shredded cheese.
Helpful Note
The combination of butter, sausage, and onions creates a flavorful cooking liquid that helps keep the pierogies soft and delicious throughout the slow-cooking process.
